Terms of Use for the FSU student marketplace

These terms explain how The Spear Exchange works, what we expect from users, and the safety rules that keep campus buying and selling practical, respectful, and low risk.

Last updated March 25, 2026 Built for FSU students
Account responsibility Keep your login secure, use accurate details, and act as if anything posted from your account came from you.
Marketplace scope The Spear Exchange is a student marketplace, not a payment processor, shipping service, or guarantor of item condition.
Safety first Meet in public, verify items before paying, and report suspicious activity quickly.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By browsing, posting, messaging, or buying on The Spear Exchange, you agree to follow these terms and any updates we post later. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

  • You must be able to form a binding agreement in your own name or through a guardian where required by law.
  • You are responsible for checking these terms periodically because the marketplace can change.
  • Continuing to use the site after changes means you accept the updated version.

2. Accounts and user conduct

Your account is personal. You should not share credentials, impersonate another person, or create multiple accounts to evade moderation or restrictions.

Keep it accurate

Use a real email, correct contact details, and truthful profile information so buyers and sellers can reach you.

Protect access

Choose a strong password, log out on shared devices, and notify us if you suspect unauthorized account access.

  • You may not use the site to harass, threaten, spam, scam, or mislead other users.
  • You may not scrape, reverse engineer, or interfere with the site or its messaging features.
  • You may not post content that is unlawful, discriminatory, abusive, or otherwise inappropriate for a campus community.

3. Listings, transactions, and payments

Listings are user-generated. We do not guarantee that any item is available, authentic, safe, or exactly as described, and we do not act as the seller or buyer in your transaction.

  • Sellers must describe items honestly, include clear photos where possible, and disclose obvious damage, defects, or missing parts.
  • Prices, meet-up plans, and payment terms are between the users involved unless a separate site feature says otherwise.
  • Payment should be completed with caution. We recommend confirming the item in person before exchanging money or digital payment.
  • Digital goods, service promises, and off-platform arrangements are the responsibility of the users who make them.

4. Prohibited conduct

To keep the marketplace usable for students, the following activity is not allowed:

  • Fraud, counterfeit goods, stolen items, or misrepresentation of ownership.
  • Weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol sales that violate law or campus policy, or other restricted items.
  • Harassment, hate speech, doxxing, stalking, or attempts to pressure another user.
  • Any attempt to bypass moderation, abuse reports, or create fake demand through fake accounts or bots.

5. Disputes and safety

If a deal goes wrong, the best first step is direct communication. The Spear Exchange may review reports, remove content, or restrict accounts, but we do not promise to resolve every dispute.

  • Use public, well-lit campus areas for meetups whenever possible.
  • Inspect items before paying and keep receipts, messages, and screenshots when useful.
  • Report suspected fraud, harassment, unsafe conduct, or prohibited listings immediately.
  • If you believe a crime occurred, contact campus security or local law enforcement first.

6. Disclaimer and limits

The Spear Exchange is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the extent allowed by law, we disclaim warranties about availability, accuracy, and transaction outcomes. We are not responsible for losses caused by user conduct, false listings, or meetups arranged through the platform.
